Beetroot

Beta vulgaris conditiva

Beetroot belongs to the Amaranthaceae family, like spinach. Beetroot is a biennial crop, where the root develops in the first year, and it flowers and develop seeds the 2. year. For seed production, the beetroot is sowed out just after after harvest in August and grows until autumn. Beetroot for seeds is grown as well as common beetroots, and hybridizes with a female and a male line where the line is removed after completion of pollination. Both the root and the leaves can be used for human consumption. When using the leaves, it is typically in the form of babyleaf. Beetroots prefer a good, deep-mulch, sand-blended clay soil with high reaction rates.
