Scorzonera hispanica

Skorzonera also known as Black salsify belongs to the family Astraceaea, and it is perennial. It has both self and foreign pollination (insects). It forms taproots and leaf rosette 1 year. The second and following years are the blooming period. In case of a good establishment, a part of the plants should have been in bloom during the year of sowing. The area may lie to seedlings approx. 3-5 years. Skorzonera prefers well-drained and well-sprinkled sand-mulch or clay-mulch with high water capacity and good lime content. Placement near fallow field and natural ground is not recommended.
