Chives

Allium schoenoprasum

Chives belongs to the onion family(Alliaceae) and is a perennial crop. It has purple flowers and has foreign pollination. Honeybees is very important for ensuring a proper pollination of chives. The leaves are used as an herb. Chives will succeed best on the well-grounded, sand mixed clay soil that is sensible fertilized, and in the mild parts of the country. The field should preferably lie protected from the wind, as the honey bees will not fly in heavy winds.
